Taylor County Football improved to 6-0 record and started off district play 1-0 with Friday night’s win on the road at Elizabethtown. After a scoreless first half and a Panther opening touchdown drive in the third quarter, the Cards rattled off 20 unanswered points to secure the victory.
The Cards first touchdown was scored when quarterback Micah Goodwin completed a 13 yard pass to Nigel Coppage. Goodwin had 60 yards passing and was 7-13 on the night. Jaelyn Anderson was the primary receiver netting 33 yards while also running for 23. The ground game was anchored by Braxtyn Abren, who totaled 152 yards and touchdown run, and Jace Anderson who had 77 total yards including a 53 yard touchdown run. Landon Dukes was 2-3 on PAT kicks.
Defensively, Maddix Vaughn led the Cards with 14 tackles followed closely by JuJu Meriwether who had 13. Dalyn Williams also recorded an interception.
Overall, the Cards had 265 yards rushing and 60 yards passing while allowing 122 rushing and 76 passing. Taylor County will be back at home on Friday night for another district matchup against the Nelson Co Cardinals. Kickoff time is 7:30.
