The Taylor County Lady Cardinals continued their dominance Thursday night, defeating Campbellsville 66-55 to claim their sixth consecutive 20th District Championship title.
Taylor County used a balanced offensive attack and strong defensive pressure to pull away and secure the district crown, finishing the night with efficient shooting and disciplined play on both ends of the floor. The Lady Cardinals shot 13-of-24 from two-point range, knocked down 10 three-pointers, and converted 10-of-14 free throws in the championship victory.
Freshman guard Kennedy Deener delivered a standout performance, leading all scorers with 30 points while also contributing across the stat sheet. Deener added 4 assists, 3 steals, and recorded 8 deflections, while going an impressive 8-of-10 from the free-throw line to help seal the win late.
Taylor County received key support throughout the lineup. Kayley Benningfield controlled the glass with 7 rebounds while adding 3 steals, and Avery Raikes contributed 4 assists and 3 steals in a strong all-around effort. Kallie Vaughn also played a major defensive role with 3 steals as the Lady Cardinals forced turnovers and limited Campbellsville scoring opportunities.
As a team, Taylor County finished with 21 rebounds, 15 assists, 13 steals, and just 9 turnovers, showcasing the disciplined play that has become a trademark of the program during its championship run.
The victory secures Taylor County’s sixth straight district title and sends the Lady Cardinals into postseason play with momentum as they advance to the 5th Region Tournament at Central Hardin. Taylor County will open regional play either Monday, March 2, or Tuesday, March 3, with the first-round draw scheduled for Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
With another district championship in hand, the Lady Cardinals now turn their focus toward a deeper postseason run as they look to carry their winning tradition into regional competition.
