Taylor County Baseball Set to Face Talented Sayre Squad in Clark’s Pump and Shop State Tournament

Taylor County Baseball gears up for a high-stakes matchup against a strong and well-rounded Sayre team from the 11th Region, coached by Kevin Clary and anchored by a veteran roster of twelve seniors. 

The showdown takes place at the Clark’s Pump-N-Shop State Tournament, with Sayre entering the contest boasting an impressive 30-6 overall record, including a 16-3 mark in regional play and 8-2 in district competition.

The Spartans’ six losses came at the hands of top-tier programs: Trinity, Tate (FL), Scott County, Beechwood, Madison Central, and Frederick Douglass.

At the plate, Sayre is led by Charlie Slabaugh, who is batting .386, followed closely by Jaxson Herrera at .369 and Gibson Gary at .346. As a team, the Spartans hold a .279 batting average and have racked up 17 home runs, 12 triples, 50 doubles, 202 RBIs, and an impressive 85 stolen bases.

On the mound, the Spartans feature a deep and reliable bullpen with 13 total pitchers, five of whom have appeared in 10 or more games. 

Lucas Saatman leads the staff with a remarkable 0.26 ERA over 27 innings and holds a perfect 4-0 record. Jaxson Howard has been a workhorse for the team, logging 44.2 innings with a 2.82 ERA and a 7-1 record.
