Have you ever passed the wooden box full of books next to City Hall and wondered what it was, well- this is Columbia’s Little Free Library.
The Little Free Library is a worldwide organization based in Minnesota with over 200,000 locations in 120 countries spread out over all 7 continents. The premise of a Little Free Library is that residents will stop by to pick up a new book and leave a book they have already read for the next person.
The City of Columbia is the steward of Little Free Library #162137, which has been operating for over 2 years.
Columbia’s Little Free Library is sorted into two categories, with both a children’s and adult library, it is presently curated by Jada Atwood, the City of Columbia Finance Officer.
The Little Free Library in Columbia has been successful, and it is estimated that over 1000 books run through the network of Columbia’s Little Free Library every year.
So, if you are an avid reader, just a casual page turner, or have a child that is learning how to read, please feel free to stop by the Columbia Little Free Library, just remember, if you take a book, share a book!
