Glasgow, KY – Having chronic knee pain should not mean giving up the activities you enjoy. Thankfully, T.J. Regional Health has invested in a new way to keep you moving: ROSA® Knee robotic technology.
ROSA® Knee is a robotically assisted surgical system designed to help perform total knee replacement surgery. Data provided by ROSA® Knee assists with complex decision-making and enables the surgeon to use computer and software technology to control and move surgical instruments, allowing for greater precision and flexibility during procedures.
Dr. Vivek Neginhal with T.J. Health Orthopedics is an experienced robotic surgeon, and he is highly trained to use the ROSA robot to personalize the surgery for each individual patient. “Knees are very sensitive. Even just a millimeter or two can make a big difference in the results,” Dr. Neginhal said. “We want to get it absolutely perfect for the patient, and because of this technology, we can do that.”
Throughout the surgery, the ROSA robot provides the surgeon with data about the knee. This information, combined with the surgeon’s skill, allows for the perfect position for the implant. For the patient, this means easier recovery with faster improvements in range of motion and function compared to traditional total knee replacement.
Lisa Brummett was one of the first patients to have the procedure performed at T.J. Samson Community Hospital. “I have a special needs daughter at home, so a lengthy downtime isn’t an option for me,” she said. “I can’t believe how well I can walk already, and it has only been two days since surgery.” She jokingly stated, “Dr. Neginhal said he pulled aliens out of my knee.”
“It is incredibly fulfilling to see patients who once came into my office barely able to walk, later leave with a renewed sense of mobility and hope,” Dr. Neginhal said.
CEO Neil Thornbury stated, “We are extremely proud to be the first hospital in south central Kentucky to offer this tremendous technology for our patients. It is an investment in our community that will help many people to start living fully again.”
