New Drone Rules Now in Effect for Kentucky Hunters and Anglers

Hunters and anglers across Kentucky are being reminded of new regulations that went into effect October 28th. The law now makes it illegal to use drones or other aircraft to take or harass wildlife.

Under the new rules, scouting with a drone is still allowed, as long as it doesn’t directly assist in the take of an animal. Drone operators can also help locate a deceased animal so it can be recovered.

However, it’s now prohibited to use drones to hunt, shoot, wound, trap, or herd wildlife, or to guide a hunter to a live animal spotted from the air.

State officials say the change is meant to promote fair chase and responsible outdoor recreation. The rules apply statewide on both public and private lands, though some public areas may have additional restrictions.
