A faithful member of Knoxes Creek Baptist Church, Doris Ann generously shared her gifts and talents with her church family throughout the years. Each autumn, she lovingly moved flowers from her own gardens to beautify the church entrance for Homecoming services, a tradition appreciated by many.
Doris Ann’s life centered around the family she loved so fiercely and cared for so devotedly. She was especially known for her exceptional cooking, with her Italian Cream Cake and Banana Croquettes becoming longtime favorites among family and friends. From church suppers and Linwood Days festivities to reunions and holiday gatherings, Doris Ann lovingly shared her talents through the meals and desserts that brought people together.
She also had a special talent for creating beautiful flower gardens filled with overflowing pots of blooms and interesting rocks she had gathered over the years. Many friends, neighbors, and loved ones spent time gathered beneath the large sugar maple trees in her front yard, enjoying good conversation, beautiful flowers, the rolling green fields, and the peaceful pond by the lane. The home she and Arlen shared for decades was the cherished 95-year-old Shelton family homeplace, rich with memories and love.
Doris Ann had a sweet but sassy personality, and people always knew where they stood with her. She could be gentle and calm in spirit, yet fiery when needed. Her strength, honesty, warmth, and deep love for her family and community will never be forgotten.
