Campbellsville-Taylor County EDA Names David Chewning as Executive Director

Veteran Manufacturing Executive and Taylor County Native to Lead Team Taylor County; Begins Role August 3

The Campbellsville-Taylor County Economic Development Authority has selected Campbellsville native David Chewning as its next Executive Director, bringing nearly four decades of executive leadership experience in manufacturing, finance, operations, and strategic planning to the organization’s top leadership role.

Chewning succeeds the Authority during an exciting period of momentum for economic development in Taylor County, following significant infrastructure investments, the national Gold-Level REDI Site designation for Heartland Commerce and Technology Park, and continued efforts to attract new industries while supporting the expansion of existing employers.

A Taylor County High School graduate and University of Kentucky alumnus, Chewning has spent the past 38 years with Ingersoll Rand, beginning as a summer assembler on the shop floor before advancing through progressively responsible leadership positions including Cost Accountant, Accounting Supervisor, Manager of Financial Control, Plant Controller, Plant Manager, and most recently, Director of Operations. In his current role, he led operations across four manufacturing facilities in Kentucky, Ohio, Illinois, and Ontario.

Throughout his career, Chewning has helped lead major operational improvements, workforce development initiatives, capital expansion projects, and strategic planning efforts. He also worked closely with the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development to secure incentives supporting the recent expansion of Ingersoll Rand’s Campbellsville facility, giving him valuable insight into the economic development process from the perspective of an existing industry.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Chewning has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to serving Campbellsville and Taylor County. He has served as President of the Campbellsville Chamber of Commerce, Vice Chairman of the Campbellsville-Taylor County Economic Development Authority, a longtime youth coach and community mentor, and has held leadership roles with local schools, athletics, and Woodlawn Christian Church, where he currently serves as an Elder and Treasurer.

“David is uniquely qualified to lead Team Taylor County into its next chapter,” said Mark Johnson, Chairman of the Campbellsville-Taylor County Economic Development Authority Board of Directors. “His executive leadership experience, financial expertise, and deep understanding of manufacturing give him tremendous credibility with existing industries and prospective employers alike. Just as importantly, David has spent his entire career investing in this community. He understands our strengths, recognizes our opportunities, and has the collaborative leadership style needed to build on the remarkable momentum Taylor County has achieved over the past several years.”

Chewning earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Kentucky and later completed a Master of Management and Leadership from Campbellsville University. He is also a Certified Management Accountant (CMA).

“Campbellsville and Taylor County are more than a place to me – they are home,” said Chewning. “Serving as Executive Director of Team Taylor County is an honor I do not take lightly. Our community has incredible strengths and untapped potential. My goal is to help build the infrastructure and opportunities that will benefit families and businesses for generations to come. I’m ready to get to work.”

Set to begin August 3, Chewning will lead the Economic Development Authority’s efforts to recruit new investment, support the growth of existing industries, develop strategic infrastructure, and strengthen partnerships that enhance the community’s long-term economic vitality.

Chewning and his wife, Jennifer, have been married since 1989. They have two sons, Matthew (wife Sarah) and John (wife RaeAnn), and two granddaughters. He is an active member of Woodlawn Christian Church and enjoys spending time with family, reading historical biographies, golfing, traveling, and following University of Kentucky athletics.
