Campbellsville Celebrates Opening of John “Bam” Carney Center

Campbellsville, KY – On March 20, 2025, community members gathered to celebrate the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the John “Bam” Carney Center, a new facility dedicated to the late state representative’s enduring legacy. The event, held at 10:00 AM, was attended by local officials, educators, and residents, all coming together to honor Carney’s commitment to education and public service.

John “Bam” Carney, who served as the state representative for Kentucky’s 51st District from 2009 until his passing in July 2021, was a staunch advocate for education. Throughout his career, he worked tirelessly to improve educational opportunities for students in Taylor and Adair counties. The newly inaugurated center stands as a testament to Carney’s dedication to the community. It is designed to serve as a hub for workforce training, with different avenues available for students that are aimed at fostering growth and development in the region.

In reference to the purpose of the new center, Higdon stated, “It’s all about preparing students for life after school.” His words reinforced the mission of the Bam Carney Center, ensuring that Carney’s legacy will continue to shape the future of Taylor County students for years to come.

During the ceremony, Superintendent Charles Higdon also introduced several student workers who are actively involved with CK Prep, CK Café, and The Venue, highlighting the real-world opportunities the Bam Carney Center is creating for young people. These students are gaining hands-on experience in fields such as education, hospitality, and business management, preparing them for future careers while still in school. From learning customer service and barista skills at CK Café, to managing community or private events at The Venue, the center provides a diverse range of pathways for students to develop valuable skills that will serve them beyond graduation.

The event was also attended by Kentucky State Senator Max Wise and State Representative Sarge Pollock, both of whom spoke on the lasting influence of Bam Carney’s work.
