Adair County Schools has amended its academic calendar, moving the first day of school for students to Monday, August 24, 2026.

This decision was made after carefully evaluating the final preparations associated with opening the new Adair County Middle School. While construction is substantially complete and significant progress continues to be made, several final items remain in progress. Rather than rushing the transition, district leadership believes it is in the best interest of our students, staff, and families to allow additional time to ensure that all schools are fully prepared for a successful opening.

It has been my goal to open this facility the right way. Although this decision was not made lightly, our priority is to provide a safe and welcoming environment and to ensure our staff are fully prepared to see students on the first day of school.

The additional time will allow district staff to complete final preparations, receive and install remaining materials, conduct comprehensive safety and operational checks, and ensure classrooms are fully ready for instruction.

Families will receive updated information regarding the revised school calendar and any adjustments to student and staff schedules in the coming days.

Adair County Schools appreciates the patience, understanding, and continued support of our students, families, employees, and community as we prepare to begin what promises to be an exciting school year in our new middle school.
