Sheriff’s Office Arrests Columbia Man On Knifley Road After Suspicious Male Complaint

On Sunday, June 28th 2026, the Adair County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 5000 block of Knifley Road. 

The dispatch was in reference to a suspicious male walking on the roadway, carrying what appeared to be some type of long gun. 

Deputies made contact with Derek Otterson, 36, of Columbia. 

Otterson was charged with Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon. 

The arrest was made by Adair County Deputy Sheriff Ricky Shirley.
