George Luther Skaggs

Mr. George Luther Skaggs of the Summersville Community of Green County was born in Green County on November 9, 1946, to the late Hartley and Bertie Lee White Skaggs. He departed this life on Monday, June 24, 2024, at the Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville, KY. having attained the age of seventy-seven years, seven months and fifteen days of age.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the South Summersville Baptist Church and was saved at an early age. He was a barber for more than 50 years and the former owner of Skaggs Barber Shop. It was his profession, but more so, he loved his customers. He always wanted them to look their best and took pride in knowing that he was a part of it. George loved to mow grass, go fishing, and enjoyed trap shooting. He was also a “John Deere” man. He loved his 11 Ginny’s and horses and taking care of them, and he also loved being with his grandchildren. George was also a member of the Army Reserves.  

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Bobby; two brothers: Melvin and Jimmy Skaggs; and one grandchild.

He is survived by his wife Wanda Faye Tucker Skaggs, three sons and one daughter:  Dennis and wife Christy Ann of Washington State, Timmy and wife Dawn of Mississippi, Greg and wife Tara of Mt Washington, KY, and Annie of Bardstown.  His also survived by one sister and brother-in-law:  Sharry and Jim Daniel of North Carolina and one brother:  Jerry Skaggs of Campbellsville, sisters-in-law:  Gwen and Beverly Skaggs of Campbellsville, two brothers-in-law:  Curtis Tucker and wife Jackie of Alabama and Doug Tucker and wife Debbie of Shepherdsville, eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, plus a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for George Skaggs will be conducted at 10 am Central Time Friday, June 28, 2024, at Foster-Toler Curry Funeral Home with Bro Leslie Jewell officiating.  Burial will follow at the Wilson Cemetery in the Gabe Community of Green County.

Visitation for George Skaggs will be 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Central Time Thursday, June 27, 2024, and after 7 a.m. Central Time Friday until the funeral service.

The family has requested that expressions of sympathy be donations to The Gideons for Bibles or the Dialysis Center of Campbellsville-Fresenius Kidney Care.  These can be made at the funeral home.
