The Taylor County Lady Cardinals capped off a remarkable season filled with historic milestones, thanks in large part to the leadership and dedication of Interim Head Coach Donnie Swiney.
According to the Taylor County Athletic Department, Coach Swiney “stepped up, taking the Interim Head Coaching position just days before the season,” providing the program with “safe, steady, and experienced hands” during a pivotal time for the team.
Under his guidance, the Lady Cardinals continued their historic rise, capturing the first back-to-back Region Titles in program history and earning the first Final Four appearance in school history. The team also added another 2A Sectional Title, finished as State Runner-Up, and secured its sixth consecutive District Title.
The Athletic Department expressed its gratitude, saying, “We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to Coach Donnie Swiney for the time, effort, and dedication he gave to Lady Cardinal Basketball this season.”
The success of the season was also shared by those closest to the coach. Taylor County officials extended thanks to the entire Swiney family for their support and appreciation to the Elizabethtown School District for allowing Coach Swiney to take on the role.
As the Lady Cardinals reflect on one of the most successful seasons in school history, the message from Taylor County is clear: “Thank you Coach Donnie Swiney for everything you have done for Lady Cardinal Basketball!!!”
