District Champs Rolling: Taylor County Cardinals Set Sights on 5th Region Showdown with Thomas Nelson

The Taylor County Cardinals are headed to the 5th Region Tournament riding the momentum of a 20th District championship.

Taylor County secured the district title with a 68-50 victory over Adair County on Friday night, using a dominant third quarter to pull away and never look back. After leading 30-20 at halftime, the Cardinals exploded for 26 points in the third period to stretch the advantage to double digits and put the game out of reach.

The Cardinals were efficient offensively, shooting 45.5 percent from the field (20-of-44) and knocking down nine three-pointers. They also did solid work at the free-throw line, converting 19-of-34 attempts.

Cooper Stone led the way with a game-high 21 points, connecting on 5-of-11 shots from the floor and 3-of-7 from beyond the arc while going 8-of-13 at the line. He added five rebounds and two assists in a strong all-around performance.

Bryce Vernon provided a big spark with 15 points, including a pair of three-pointers, and was effective attacking the rim and getting to the foul line. Brylen Close added 12 points on an efficient 5-of-8 shooting night, while Griffin Hines chipped in 11 points and hit three three-pointers to help fuel the third-quarter surge.

Taylor County also controlled the glass, outrebounding Adair County 32-18, limiting second-chance opportunities and turning defensive stops into transition points. The Cardinals’ balanced attack and defensive pressure proved to be the difference as they captured the district crown.

Now, the focus shifts to regional play.

The Cardinals will face Thomas Nelson in the opening round of the 5th Region Tournament on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. EST. With a district championship in hand and confidence building at the right time, Taylor County will look to carry its momentum into regional competition.
